A number of years ago, Robert Bacal observed that some people seem to experience much less conflict in their lives, and wanted to find out what was special about them. One of the major things that distinguished conflict free people from their more conflict plagued counterparts had to do with how they used language. Robert coined the term “cooperative language” to designate the more peaceful type of language, as compared to “confrontational language”.
Ultimately, Bacal completed his book, Conflict Prevention In the Workplace – Using Cooperative Communication, and has made available several chapters of the book. The chapters are sufficient to get a good understanding of how language works regarding conflict. You can download the free chapters by going to the busylearners.com site.
